Diagnostic 3D and 4D ultrasounds are typically performed between 15-22 weeks and used to detect Down Syndrome and Edward's Syndrome.

The 3D and 4D Ultrasound looks for "soft markers" which are not birth defects, but normal variants seen more often in babies with chromosomal problems such
as Down Syndrome.

The majority of babies with soft markers are genetically normal, however, some patients decide to have invasive testing such as amniocentesis to confirm a diagnosis.
